AWESOME NEWS! Smoosicals has won big at the 2026 Brussels United Theatre Technicians’ Awards! The awards, affectionately known as “the Butties”, are held at the end of each yearly theatre season and are voted on by nearly 200 members of the Brussels English-speaking theatre community.
Little Shop of Horrors took the awards by storm, scooping up the prestigious BEST SHOW prize, as well as Best Producer, Best Stage Management, Best Props, Best Set Design & Construction, Best Hair & Makeup & Best Director, as well as nominations in Costumes, Lighting, Publicity & Design and Sound. Glensheen was also lauded by theatregoers, coming away with nominations in Stage Management, Publicity & Design and Sound!
Individual performers in the Smoosicals shows were also thrust into the spotlight – with Michael Agotha securing the coveted Best Actor prize for his portrayal of Seymour in Little Shop, and Victoria Barbazanges nominated for Best Actress for her portrayal of Marjorie in Glensheen, alongside both of their performances in BLOC’s Charlie & the Chocolate Factory. Manu Peix was nominated for Best Actor for his Dentist in Little Shop, alongside his performance in ECC’s Home, I’m Darling!, and Rosette Seck was nominated Best Newcomer after her first ever time on the Brussels stage, portraying Ronette in Little Shop.
To put the icing on the cake of a truly glorious day, the Smoosicals Committee members were also up for a whole heap of recognition, with Mary Wiklander nominated for a Lifetime Achievement Award and winning Best Costumes for her work with Green Parrot Productions, Andy Fisk winning Best Sound for his work with BLOC, and Cath Howdle & Cat Harris receiving nods for the (cheekily named) Golden Butt for contributions to the theatre community.
None of these awards would have been possible without a tremendous amount of hard work on the part of Smoosicals’ actors, crews & production teams, and without the enthusiastic welcome and support of the wonderful Brussels English-speaking theatre community itself.
