Attention all plant enthusiasts – we will be holding auditions for Little Shop of Horrors in early December 2025! Here’s everything you need to know:
About the production
Little Shop of Horrors will be performed at the Claude Volter Theatre in Brussels on 7-10 May 2026.
Rehearsals will start in January 2026 with a month of singing work, followed by stage rehearsals from February. Rehearsals will be on Tuesday and Thursday evenings, and Sunday afternoons (with the possibility of some rehearsals on Friday evenings as we get closer to the show). Rehearsals will be intensive: cast members can expect at least 1-2 rehearsals a week until mid-March and then 3 rehearsals a week until the show. Scheduling will take prior commitments into account but cast members are expected to commit fully to the rehearsal process.
About the parts
There are 8 principal parts in Little Shop of Horrors:
- Seymour Krelborn (25-35; A2-G4), an insecure, put-upon florist’s clerk and eventual hero (of sorts). He is a genuine, well-meaning man who is taken for granted because of his clumsy ways and poor social skills.
- Audrey (25-35; G#3-D5), the secret love of Seymour’s life. She has poor self-worth and education, but is beautiful (especially to Seymour) with a sweet and vulnerable demeanor.
- Mr Mushnik (50-70; G2-F4), Seymour’s boss, a put-upon owner of a failing East Side flower shop.
- Orin Scrivello (30-45; G2-F4), a sociopathically egotistical dentist with a passion for leather and sadistic tendencies. Audrey’s abusive boyfriend. The actor playing Scrivello may also be called upon to play other roles in the show.
- (voice of) Audrey II (G2-G4), a plant with an appetite for human flesh and a psychic ability to manipulate people, fatally appeased by Seymour throughout the show. This is an offstage singing role, although the actor may also be called upon to play incidental roles onstage in the early numbers.
- Crystal, Ronnette and Chiffon (Ab3-F5), the Greek Chorus of the show. Normally cast as three streetwise Urchins (20-35), we are also considering portraying these characters as three generations of the same family and so welcome auditions from older actors for these parts.
We will also recruit a small ensemble of four persons (SATB), to add depth of sound to the singing and add presence to the scenes. Ensemble members can expect to have a very busy show with singing, dancing, acting as a variety of characters, energetic puppeteering and understudying the main roles.
Notes on gender, age and race: While our licence requires us to perform all parts as the gender specified, the auditions are gender neutral: any actor of any gender is welcome to audition for any part. Likewise, the ages listed in the character notes are the apparent ages of the characters, not strict limits on the ages of the actors. Finally, Smoosicals is an inclusive group and we especially welcome auditions from actors of colour for all parts.
